Because hot air balloons can fly from remote locations - - and often come down in even more-remote locations - - it is important to wear clothes that will protect you from mosquitoes, ticks, poison ivy, scratches from brush and branches, etc. Long pants and sturdy shoes help protect you from these and other hazards.
On cold mornings, layers of clothing work best.
Of special importance is a good pair of gloves, preferably leather or with leather palms. Much of the crew work involves working with ropes and handling warm or hot equipment. The balloon basket also presents hazards to the hands while handling it.
Some "don't wears":
- Nylon or any other materials that can catch fire and/or melt;
- Dangling jewelry or accessories that can get snagged on the basket or equipment;
- Sandals or flip-flops.
